The 7-Eleven Saga Continues

A little over a week since the Federal Court’s finding of underpayment by 7-Eleven for two workers (read more about the case here), 7-Eleven has ended its independent compensation panel into underpayment of workers. The company will now use an internal unit to process and decide compensation claims. However, members of the panel including its chair, Professor Allan Fels, have publicly expressed concern over the independence and fairness of an internal means of addressing claims. The panel has to date processed hundreds of claim amounting to more than $12 million in back pay. It estimates that the total payout would be close to $100 million, indicating the sheer amount of work left to be done.
