The scale of modern slavery in Britain was revealed following six months of undercover filming by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit. The car wash workers that are featured in the report work 12 hour days for 35 pounds, face verbal and physical abuse, huge fines for minor damage and live in squalid conditions. The reporters also interview a Vietnamese farmer working in an active cannabis farm who describes a life of fear and discomfort and a sex trafficker who brings women who have worked as sex slaves in Romania to London and forces them into prostitution. The report comes as the UK’s independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner warned that big businesses could unknowingly be using slavery in their supply chain.
